The MPO’s role in helping “SHIFT” Kentucky Ahead

In July 2017, the MPO Transportation Policy Committee will indicate to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) which of the projects that are under consideration for inclusion in the Draft State Highway Plan are the highest priority for our region.  The list and map of potential projects are included in a brief survey HERE.  The MPO is interested in your thoughts on which projects are most important to you, our community and the region.

Background:  The KYTC has developed a new process for determining the state’s transportation funding priorities.   The KYTC’s “Strategic Highway Investment Formula for Tomorrow” (SHIFT) is underway and the MPO and the public have a role to play.  Using a formula created by KYTC transportation professionals, they will assess potential and on-going highway projects from across the state.  KYTC will select some projects to advance into the Draft State Highway Plan based on their rankings and their statewide significance.  The list of remaining projects will be shared with the MPOs.  The MPO will help set priorities for which regional projects may advance into the statewide plan.  Using the this input, KYTC will draft a proposed highway plan for Gov. Matt Bevin to present to the 2018 General Assembly.

Please note: while many projects under consideration include bicycle, pedestrian and transit enhancements; stand-alone bicycle, pedestrian and transit projects are not included in the KYTC SHIFT program.
