Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is a cooperative transportation planning process for Fayette and Jessamine Counties designed to foster involvement by all users of the transportation system. It includes a comprehensive consideration of possible transportation strategies; an evaluation process that encompasses diverse viewpoints; the collaborative participation of relevant transportation-related agencies and organizations; and open, timely, and meaningful public involvement. Elements include monitoring existing conditions; forecasting future conditions; identifying current and projected future problems and needs; defining various improvement strategies to address transportation needs; developing long-range and short-range plans of capital and operational strategies for moving people and goods; estimating impact of strategies/improvements to the transportation system and environment, including air quality; and developing a financial plan for securing sufficient revenues to cover the cost of implementing strategies.
