Public Notification of Amendment to MPO’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)

The Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (LAMPO) conducted a 15-day public comment period for an amendment to one of our our key planning documents: Amendment 1 to the Fiscal Year 2025-2028 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

This TIP Amendment adds 3 projects: 1) improvements to Georgetown Road between Spurr Road to Kearney Road, 2) “access management” on Nicholasville Road between Nicholasville and Man O’ War Blvd., and 3) a new connection called the “Hamburg Connector.”

  1. Georgetown Road Improvements: This is one of two projects to widen and reconstruct Georgetown Road (US 25). The next section to be improved is from Kearney Road to Ironworks Road and is scheduled for construction in FY 2025.
  2. Nicholasville Road “access management” project: This is a project to improve congestion by changing how many access (entry/exit) points there are along US 27 in a specific area.
  3. Hamburg Connector project: This is a project to address congestion and improve safety of Winchester Road and Man O’ War Blvd. It will create an new roadway connection between Sir Barton Way and Polo Club Blvd., giving people an alternate route.

State funding has recently been committed to all three of these projects. Each project was identified in the KYTC’s State Highway Plan. This means that funding resources are known and assigned, and these projects can now be added to the MPO’s 4-year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

You can learn more about these projects and see a breakdown of funding by exploring the document below.

The Lexington Area MPO is the transportation planning agency for Fayette and Jessamine County. The MTP lists projects for achieving transportation goals in the region over a 25-year period. The TIP is a shorter-term list of projects with a four year timeline. Projects in the TIP are ready for some stage of implementation and also have a formal commitment of funding in the next four years. Any project that will use federal funds or that the MPO considers significant to the region must be included in both the MTP and TIP to be implemented.
